Joan Coello Director of Public Relations Major: Business Administration and Global Studies Year: Sophomore Hometown: San Leandro, CA Pronouns: She/Her/Hers Email: ucblbsa.pr@gmail.com I am Joan Coello, I was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras and moved to the US when I was 12 years of age. When I first stepped foot at Cal as a freshman I felt a little intimidated by the fact that I wasn't surrounded by a lot of people that looked like me. Being a part of an underrepresented minority motivated me to want to make a change for those coming after me. I came across LBSA my second semester, and I finally felt like I belonged somewhere. LBSA's goal is to create a safe space for us as Latinx students. Being an immigrant, first-generation student in higher education is never easy, but through LBSA I have been able to expand my knowledge, challenge myself, and grow not just professionally but academically as well. LBSA is a great resource, you find plenty of opportunities, ways to improve and you learn to find your passion in every single step of the way. Because of the huge impact that this organization had in me in such a short period of time, I decided to run for the Director of PR so that I myself, can have a more engaged role in helping and supporting other members in our community. I want to introduce new ideas so that we as a whole can continue growing and better supporting this community that has given us so much. I am beyond blessed to have found my LBSA familia, and beyond grateful for this opportunity. Outside of the professional and academic environment, I love to hike, go out on runs and workout. I'm a foodie and love trying new things in the kitchen, and I absolutely love traveling and learning about the history of other paces and cultures. I am a very open-minded, friendly person and I love meeting new people so please don't hesitate to reach out! |
