Our History
LBSA was officially established in 1998, when only three Latino students were admitted into UC Berkeley's Walter A. Haas School of Business. These three unique individuals, Ulysses Romero, Eddie Martin, and Jorge Rodriguez, witnessed the low representation of Latinos in both academia and the corporate workforce. As a result, LBSA was founded and continues to abide by its mission to empower the Latino community.

Our Today
Today, the UC Berkeley Latino Business Student Association is the largest minority business organization. In an effort to promote diversity at the Haas School of Business and the corporate world, LBSA has grown to over 170 members with over 40 events per year, 10+ sponsors, and 220+ Alumni. LBSA abides by its mission by providing resources to underrepresented students, such as career opportunities, professional development, academic assistance, exposure to an extensive network and more.
Together, we make each other feel welcomed and inspired to achieve our goals. |
Four Pillars
Professional Development
Each semester, LBSA and our corporate sponsors conduct several events that serve to develop the professional skills of its members. Members are able to interact with representatives from leading companies like Deloitte, Google, Accenture, and more! These professional events include on-campus informational sessions, office visits, social mixers in San Francisco, and much more. Additionally, LBSA sponsors its members to attend national conventions each year that are hosted in major cities across the Unites States.
Academic Success
You're at UC Berkeley because you've pursued academic excellence and challenge. Still, even the most ambitious people need a little help sometimes. Team work is everything! That's why as an LBSA member, you can expect to find the assistance and moral support needed to get through those tough classes here at Cal. Throughout the school year, LBSA offers study jams, mentorship programs, study resources, and scholarships to support LBSA members excel academically. To increase LBSA representation at the Haas School of Business, LBSA also hosts application workshops for applicants to ensure that students are supported throughout every endeavor they decide to pursue at UC Berkeley. Succeed alongside your fellow peers looking to manifest the best you into reality.
Community Service
Engaging in community service provides our members with the opportunity to become active members of the campus and beyond to create a lasting and positive impact. Volunteerism enables our members to acquire life skills and knowledge, as well as provide a service to those who need it most. LBSA builds leaders that will not only excel academically and professionally, but will also lift their community through community outreach events. From mentoring low-income high school students, to empowering the homeless population, to planting trees, our LBSA members care deeply about uplifting the Berkeley community.
Familia
Being a Golden Bear is tough, especially with Latinos representing less than 15% of the UC Berkeley population. LBSA strives to unite the Latino community by fostering a sense of community. Through our social bonding events, we bring together a community of Latinos who are driven and passionate to build life-long friendships. In LBSA, we strive to be your second Familia, to be your foundation of support, and to help you reach your full potential.
